Virtual Reality at Abingdon Elementary

Student viewing the world through Google Cardboard

Fifth graders at AES have been “virtually" traveling around the world with Google Cardboard. Students have been transported to such places as the Great Barrier Reef, the Eiffel Tower, the Parthenon, and the Taj Mahal as well as visiting National Parks worldwide. Children literally feel that they are on vacation!  They have also experienced being inside a cell during phase changes that they can activate using special virtual buttons within the app. Students have been riding roller coasters to take brain breaks while reviewing for upcoming testing. Our favorite experience has been helping our African student go to his home country of Ethiopia. Students are so excited about Google Cardboard and we begin our day escaping to a virtual destination or engaging in an activity that is normally out of reach. Who knew you could have so much fun with cardboard?
