About the Jammin' Bobcats
The Abingdon Elementary Bobcat Jam is an after school program for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who are learning about music from around the world that has influenced our local musical culture of the Appalachian Region. Students sing songs and play instruments including ukulele, dulcimer, guitar, autoharp, banjo and fiddle, mandolin, and harmonica. The Bobcat Jam has performed for PTA, Glade Spring Farmer’s Market and the Heartwood Youth Music Festival. Parents and students are encouraged to attend music venues, concerts and Museums all along the Crooked Road, America’s Musical Heritage Trail. Students wishing to be included in the Abingdon Elementary Jam group must follow through on practice assignments, attend rehearsals and performances with exceptions of illness or school closings, take care of instruments, and display proper classroom rehearsal etiquette. Teachers include Mrs. Barbara Walton, Ms. Tammy Martin, and Ms. Donna Davis. We are dedicated to instilling a love of Old Time and Bluegrass music to our future generations.
