Hour of Code Great Fun at AES
Mrs. Ratliff’s second grade class at Abingdon Elementary participated in the largest learning event in history, the Hour of Code as a part of Computer Science Education Week, December 8-14. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in over 180 countries through a one hour introduction of computer science. Students learn basic concepts of writing code using free computer programming tutorials. Mrs. de Nobriga, principal of Abingdon Elementary, joined Mrs. Ratliff’s class to write code with students using drag-and-drop block coding. The Hour of Code was first created in 2013, to introduce students to coding, using popular entertainment like Frozen, Minecraft, and Star Wars through simple, visual based exercises.
