4th Grade Visits Abingdon Muster Grounds

Abingdon Elementary 4th graders visited the Abingdon Muster Grounds on Friday, September 21st.   Students were able to travel back in time.  They stopped by several interactive stations that helped to explain life during the 1700’s.  They learned about the battle of King’s Mountain and how it was a turning point in the Revolutionary War.  Students were also able to learn about the U.S. Constitution, take a try at spearing an apple, shown the significance of music and its many uses, and how horses were used and the importance of taking care of their feet.  There were so many more wonderful stations that allowed students to imagine living during that time period.

The guides at each station were dressed just as a person from the 1700’s  and shared how they lived during this time.  We ended our day with a march back to the buses to reenact the march to King’s Mountain.  History came to life for a day in 4th grade!
